But while the stakes of its story are lower, and it lacks some of the epic set pieces, cinema-rivaling effects, and adrenaline-pumping action of its predecessors, it still delivers a solid, albeit quite different, God of War action-adventure. The gods also get in on the action, gifting Kratos with a number of cool tools – like a fire-spewing tree branch – that can combat baddies, assist with puzzle-solving, and open previously obstructed parts of the map. The game's combat, which feels a bit plodding in the opening hours, really finds its footing a few hours in. The game's combat and world didn't immediately grab me, but its characters and narrative did. Borrowing heavily from the Metroidvania genre, the smaller-scale game has also earned the ire of some players – including series' creator David Jaffe – who've been less than impressed by this fresh direction for the franchise.

A Coming of Age Story

Currency defaults to GBP once a UK billing address is entered, and the dashboard that follows shows a verification checklist rather than an open cashier. That means no confirmed Gambling Commission licence covers the brand's GB operations on current evidence. Their exact presence and menu wording could not be verified from outside login, so the account's own settings screen is the place to confirm them directly. The five standard tools, deposit limit, stake limit, session time limit, self-exclusion and reality check, are expected in the account settings menu.

Manko said that Kratos's base kit was all about his Spartan training and how he used his spear and shield in combat. Combat designer Tyler Bryan said they tried to keep to the core of the God of War series, so they had the game start with a boss battle against a cyclops and ripping its eye out, two characteristics of the older Greek games. Mega Cat developed a tool that took those animations and converted them to 2D spreadsheets, after which, the pixel artists drew over them to create the animations. Pixel artist Anna Nguyen said that one of the considerations that they had to make was transitioning the 3D combat to 2D and making it flow smoothly, since it would be limited to the 2D plane. In March 2025, Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb claimed that a "side-story" in the God of War franchise was in development and would return the series to its original Greek mythology setting.

A God of War Metroidvania could have been a productive and exciting use of the IP, especially in a post-Silksong world, but Sons of Sparta doesn’t have a fraction of that juice. This game stepped into an overly crowded space, brought nothing new or interesting to the table, and has this weird, corporate, “how do you do fellow kids” energy with its faux-retro trimmings that don’t have any historical verisimilitude. The story is left half-baked due to its slow pace, ordinary metroidvania structure, and shallow gameplay systems.

Like most online gambling sites, Spartaza Casino keeps its gamblers aware of responsible gambling, though we didn’t like the limited features. Spartaza Casino is a legitimate, licensed online gambling site, but it operates under an offshore license, so player protection is more limited than at locally regulated casinos. Feel free to use our KYC guide which provides step-by-step instructions to ensure your account verification is quick and easy.
